Hola and bonjour, future expats! Today’s post takes us to the romantic streets of Spain and France. If you’ve ever dreamt of sipping espresso in Paris or snacking on tapas in Barcelona (both of which I have thoroughly enjoyed) while teaching, you’re in the right place. Let’s dive into the different ways you can teach and live in these beautiful countries.
First up, teaching English. This is one of the most popular routes, and for pretty good reasons too. Both Spain and France have a high demand for English teachers. You can work in language schools, public schools, or even offer private tutoring. Programs like the TAPIF in France or the Auxiliares de Conversación in Spain are both places I would start. I also applied for the TAPIF one year- it's a pretty sweet program.
Another option is becoming an au pair. This is a great option if you love kids and want to immerse yourself in the local culture. As an au pair, you’ll live with a host family, help with childcare, and often have time to take language classes or explore the country. Plus, it’s a wonderful way to build lasting relationships and truly experience the local lifestyle.
For those with a bit more experience and higher education, consider working as a college professor. Universities in Spain and France often seek native English speakers to teach English or other subjects. This role usually comes with a higher salary and additional perks like research opportunities and academic collabs.
Ready to pack your bags for Europe? These options give you a variety of ways to live your dream.
