I Packed Up My Life in the U.S. and Moved to the Middle East — Best Decision Ever

Real talk from a Kansas City girl who needed more.

Okay, let me set the scene. I'm a first-generation college grad, eldest of six, and the farthest my family ever traveled for vacation was St. Louis. So when I tell you I ended up teaching in Kuwait and then Qatar and then the UAE, please know that nobody in my family saw that coming.

Including me.

But here's the thing about life: it expands when you let it. It was my senior year in college, and I thought- no way I just end up teaching in Iowa (where I went to college), or I go back home to Kansas City and teach there. No way. There's more out there. So I Googled, yes, literally Googled, "teaching jobs abroad", clicked on a link, and the rest is history.

Four years in Kuwait. Then five back in the States (and baby, let me tell you, coming home hit different after living abroad). Then Qatar. Then the UAE. Each move taught me something new. Something new about education, about the world, and most importantly about myself. If you're sitting in your classroom in America right now feeling like something is missing, I want you to know: you are not crazy. That feeling is information. And I'm here to help you figure out what to do with it.
